The Lebanese Red Cross

Two days ago we had to take my Grand Mother to hospital due to complications from an infection she has. We called the red cross and an Ambulance arrived to my Grandma’s house in 4 minutes. So I just want to thank them for getting there so quickly! My Grand Mother could have waited a little more and wasn’t in a dangerous condition but it’s good to know that you can get help quickly when you need it :) so a special thanks to the Lebanese Red Cross for always helping people in peace and in war!

Email claiming McDonald’s could be a Terrorist target

Today I received a forwarded mail that claims that sources from the UNIFIL intelligence told someone that some terrorists want to attack MCDonalds in Lebanon to oppose the Annapolis conference.

Here’s the mail, it was originally sent by some Joumana but that could be easily faked so I wont put the full name or e-mail of the person:

Dear All,

Through UNIFIL Intelligence Sources, we are informed that Mc Donald’s restaurants in Lebanon could be a target by TERRORISTS opposing the Annapolis meeting. So you are advised to avoid these places for the remaining of the week.
Stay Safe,
Joumana

In my opinion this mail is just a bad joke done by some person that wants to harm McDonald’s. For starters UNIFIL does not go sharing its intelligence with people! And even if it did I guess they would have just made it public instead of telling “Joumana” leaving her the task to protect the Lebanese! In addition to this and if my memory is correct I remember receiving something similar to this a couple of years ago, and the mail got denied on TV back then and the police started an investigation to find out who the sender was.

So if you receive this mail just ignore it and throw it in your trash, I am pretty sure McDonald’s is secure, don’t worry you can have a big Mac this week!

ICE Campaign in Lebanon

In Case of Emergency Lebanon ad

This morning I watched a Lebanese red cross ad on TV encouraging people to enter an ICE number into the phone book of their Cell-Phones.

ICE means In Case of Emergency and entering this phone number will allow the Red Cross or any first responder to know who to contact in case you are in an accident. All you have to do is add a contact to your cell with the number of the person you want them to call in case you are in an accident. If you have multiple ICEs just name them ICE1, ICE2 … you can also add the relation you have with that person after the number like this: ICE1-Mom …

Note that the ICE program is not only running in Lebanon, it is also used in Europe and North America so get your cell phone and add an ICE entry now!

Independence Day Parade

The army didn’t organize a parade for the second year in row due to political and security reasons but apparently this year Offre Joie organized one to celebrate independence day, I just found this picture of the parade on BBC’s Day in pictures but couldn’t get any more info about it.

Offre joie parade lebanon
Soldiers provide security for a parade by the Lebanese group Offre Joie in central Beirut.

I hope next year we get a normal happy independence day.

War Quotes

Here’s a selection of some war quotes I like that I found on the net, all of them are true but people will never learn that war never solves anything!

They wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting to die for one’s country. But in modern war, there is nothing sweet nor fitting in your dying. You will die like a dog for no good reason. -Ernest Hemmingway

War does not determine who is right – only who is left. -Bertrand Russell

The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations. -David Friedman

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets. -Voltaire, War

Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity. -Author Unknown

You can’t say civilization don’t advance, however, for in every war they kill you in a new way. -Will Rogers, New York Times, 23 December 1929

and finally I hope that …

A day will come when a cannon will be exhibited in museums, just as instruments of torture are now, and the people will be astonished that such a thing could have been. -Victor Hugo

Bad news for straight Lebanese women, Good news for straight Lebanese men

I was checking the Top 100 websites on Alexa for Lebanon and found that the 38th most visited website in Lebanon is Manjam.com, Why is this good/bad? Well here’s ManJam description: “The Ultimate Gay Social Network for dating, work and travel. Promote yourself, your talents and lifestyle through a network of like-minded people. Hookup Now with the Hottest Guys Online!”.

The rank of this website is better then the rank of NowLebanon, LebanonFiles, Download.com … so a lot of Lebanese men are apparently interested in other men, so if you’re a man, you now have more chances of finding the love of your life, and if you are a woman, you better find yourself a man real soon because apparently half the men are gay and most of the other half is outside the country :P .
